Itinerary at a Glance
We pride ourselves in running a relaxed and flexible schedule. Every Fisher Towers rafting trip is different depending upon the group, other trips on the water, camp locations, and sometimes the weather. The following is a sample of what your trip might be like:
The Day Before Your Trip
We’ll meet at the OARS Warehouse in Moab this evening for a pre-trip orientation. This is an opportunity to meet your fellow travelers and guides and ask any last-minute questions.
Day 1
We’ll get going first thing in the morning, taking a short drive along superbly scenic Highway 128 to the Dewey Bridge put-in on the Colorado River. Upon arrival at the boat ramp, our guides will present a brief safety talk and orientation to our boats and gear.
Setting out on the Colorado River, the gentle rapids on the initial stretch of our 20-mile journey downstream allow us time to take in the scenery, swim, or paddle an inflatable kayak or stand-up paddle board. We’ll stop for lunch and the guides will prepare a delicious riverside meal while you enjoy the beauty of the canyon, splash in the calm waters, or lounge in the sun. As we venture further downstream, we may hike into Bull Canyon, a beautifully sculpted shady canyon with towering red rock walls and cottonwood trees or take a short jaunt to explore the Onion Creek drainage.
We’ll aim to reach camp later in the afternoon following an exciting run through Onion Creek Rapid. Once at camp, you’ll set up your tent and have time to relax while your guides prepare dinner and hors d’oeuvres. You may choose to explore the campsite, read, or chat with your fellow travel companions. After dinner, the evening is yours to play camp games, share stories in the “living room,” or simply relax and soak in the star-filled skies.
Day 2
Morning begins with a coffee call from the kitchen. Grab a hot drink and watch the sunrise play out on the cliffs surrounding you. Get a head start on packing up your dry bags, and then enjoy a hearty breakfast and some time to relax as your guides break down camp.
Today, we’ll run some of the most exciting rapids on this stretch of the Colorado like Rocky, White’s, and Big Bend. Time permitting, we may take a break from the water to explore a beautiful side canyon before finding a sun soaked beach to stop for a delicious riverside lunch.
In the afternoon, we’ll reach Takeout Beach, which marks the end of our Fisher Towers rafting adventure. We’ll say goodbye to the guides and take a short 30-minute drive back to Moab.

The number and variety of boats on an OARS trip will vary based on water levels, the number of participants and other factors we take into account when planning your adventure. Please be aware that in doing so, we will ask you to share boat time with your fellow travelers. We don’t assign boats, nor can we guarantee exactly which crafts we bring, but trust us to provide you with the best possible mix for you and others on your trip.
Learn more about the OARS Fleet and the boats that may be a part of your experience: Oar raft, paddle raft, inflatable kayak, and stand-up paddleboard.
After each active day on the river, we pull ashore to camp for the night. Our first task is to unload the boats using a fire line of crew and guests to expedite the process. Individuals then collect their waterproof bags and locate an area on the beach to camp for the night.
While you put up your tent, the guides will set up the kitchen and central dining/seating area with camp chairs. They will also locate a secluded area away from camp to set up the portable toilet, where privacy is assured.
As guides prepare dinner, hors d’oeuvres are served. This is an opportunity to relax, enjoy a drink if you wish, and reflect on the day with your fellow traveling companions.
In the morning, the first wake-up call lets you know that coffee, hot water for tea or cocoa, juice, fresh fruit, and cold cereal are ready. You can fill your mug and grab a bite, then begin to pack up your personal belongings and sleep gear as the guides prepare breakfast.
After breakfast, the entire camp is broken down and packed up. Once the guides have all of the gear loaded back onto the boats, we’ll head downstream to see what new adventures await us.

Water Levels & Temperature
The Fishers Tower section of the Colorado River is generally unregulated, meaning no single reservoir controls the water level. The river can have elevated flows during spring runoff in years when the high country feeding the Colorado River watershed has received a plentiful snowpack. Peak run-off usually occurs between mid-May and mid-June, but can vary widely from early May and into July. The minimum age for trips during this period may be higher.
High water trips equate to a more intense whitewater experience, and a higher level of physical fitness is recommended. Water temperatures are coldest during the high water period, and rain gear and warm synthetic clothing will be required.
Whitewater

The stretch of the Colorado River between Dewey Bridge Landing and Takeout Beach is rated Class II-III, depending on water levels. These whitewater rafting levels and classifications are based on the International Scale of River Difficulty and can vary depending on the water level and season.

We regret that we cannot make exceptions to the cancellation policy for any reason, including foul weather, poor air quality, wildfire activity, acts of terrorism, civil unrest or personal emergencies. For these reasons, we strongly urge you to consider purchasing a travel protection plan.

Canceled Trips
OARS reserves the right to cancel any trip due to insufficient registration or other factors that make the trip impractical to operate. In such instances, we will inform you at least 7 days prior to departure. Do not make non-refundable travel arrangements until you have verified with OARS that your trip is confirmed.

OARS is not responsible for expenses incurred by participants in preparation for a canceled trip.
Transfers
If you need to move your reservation to a different trip during the same year, or to a credit account for the following year, there is a $15/person fee up until 30 days prior to departure for a one-time transfer of your payment. If we are 29-7 days prior to your trip departure, there is a $50/person fee to transfer to another trip, within the same year or to a credit account for the following year. If we are 6 days or less prior to departure, 50% of your trip cost can be credited to another trip within the same year only.
