JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Klamath River Driver/Guide
Department: Field Operations
Reports to: Oregon Operations Managers
# of Direct Reports: None
Location (if applicable): Grants Pass, OR
Job Status: Seasonal, Non-exempt

 

POSITION SUMMARY

Are you a CDL driver who would like to become a river guide?  As part of the OARS Oregon guide team, this driver/guide will drive the 22-passenger bus full of guests for the 45 minute drive to put-in and then work the 3-day rafting trip as a guide.  Qualified applicants must already possess a current Commercial Driver License (Class B or C with passenger endorsement).

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

 

  • Regular guide wages with added shuttle pay for drives
  • Company-matching ($.50 for every $1.00 contributed up to 6% of gross pay) 401k plan after 1 year
  • Discounts on OARS trips

 

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT

 

  • Seasonal:  June through September

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

 

  • Driving a 22 passenger bus
  • Bus inspection
  • All aspects of river guiding

 

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Applicants must possess a current Commercial Driver License (Class B or C with passenger endorsement)
  • Possess, or be willing to obtain, a DOT Medical certificate
  • Clean driving record
  • Minimum of CPR & WFR or greater certifications
  • Rafting experience or willingness to train in rafting skills including boating, camp, talks, trip experience, warehouse and rescue/emergency response
  • Safe food-handling including attention to dietary restrictions and artfully present food
  • Ability to care for and maintain OARS equipment and personal equipment
  • Ability to complete all written documentation using required technology
  • Good lifting techniques and attention to all areas of worker safety
  • Securely and safely rig all boats and vehicles for whitewater or road travel
  • Communicate effectively and resolve conflict
  • Customer service and people skills
  • Practice leadership skills
  • Ability to work with a wide array of demographics including varieties in age, gender, race, culture, disability etc
  • Willingness to work all aspects of the job
  • Capable of completing a long day of work
  • Physically fit (water based guides must be able to self-rescue back into boat)
  • Team player
  • Fluent English

  • Self-starter

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

  • Physical demands
  • Heavy living of boating equipment and warehouse supplies
  • Extreme weather, ranging from winter-like conditions to very hot temperatures during the summer months in remote locations
