Position Summary
Lotus Food Packer
The Lotus Food Packer is responsible for supporting the overall needs of the commissary and presentation of nutritious and fulfilling meals, both on and off the river. Whether you want to gain food handling experience or have worked in any type of food service positions, you will constantly find new challenges and opportunities to expand your skill set while working at our American River Outpost in Lotus, CA. The Food Packer role is vital to the success of that mission.
Compensation & Benefits
- $16.00 – $18.00 per hour, depending on experience

Term of Employment
- Part Time: May-September (dates are flexible)
- Min of one weekend day will be required weekly
- 15-30 hours a week
- This position is subject to a one month probationary period.
Working Conditions
- The OARS American River operation experiences extreme weather, ranging from winter conditions, including early season snow and freezing temperatures, to triple-digit heat during the summer months
- Wildfires are a common occurrence and can drastically diminish air quality
- The Food Room is a shared workspace where interruptions can be frequent
- Workspace temperatures can vary greatly, oftentimes working in cold storage as well as outdoors. You will be working independently most of the time.
- Most of the day is spent on your feet bending, reaching, lifting, and stretching
Essential Duties
- Effectively use our meal-planning software and reservations system.
- Awareness of dietary and allergy restrictions
- Monitor inventory, portion, and pack meals to be used on- and off-site daily
- Maintain commissary with a high standard of cleanliness, organization, and efficiency
- Adhere to National and California Food Handling Standards
- Occasional duties might include assisting with meal setup and serving to guests on occasion
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Managers
Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum of 18 years old
- Experience or willingness to work in food service industry
- Knowledge of current food trends and special dietary needs a plus
- Physically fit (must be able to lift 50 lbs on regular basis)
- Team player
- Solid communication skills
- Fluent in English
- Basic computer skills
- Currently, we can only accept applicants who can legally work in the United States
- Ability to adapt to fluctuating hours of work on a daily basis
- Must possess or be willing to acquire CA Food Handlers within 14 days of hire
