Mickey Myers, founder of Rhizome Ecotherapy

Mickey Myers is a nature-based somatic therapist, E-RYT 200 yoga teacher, and seasoned river guide. With over a decade of professional whitewater guiding experience, Mickey has developed an intimate and sacred relationship with the river that she is passionate about sharing with the world. Mickey sows the seeds of active hope through eco-psychology, somatic expression, and community engagement to facilitate deeper interconnection into our web of relations. She supports participants in exploring collective resilience by drawing from her background in mindfulness, dance, ecology, and social justice advocacy. Her work will resonate with healers, activists, and anyone navigating relational trauma, stress, grief, or ecological despair. She offers individual sessions, workshops, and retreats that emphasize ritual, play, and connection for the liberation of all beings. On the river, Mickey leads with heart and skill. She creates safe, open, and expressive spaces where participants can restore their connections to their deepest wildness and belonging. When she’s not guiding or teaching, you’ll likely find her biking, dancing, or playing with her dog, Nina. She lives and works in the unceded territories of the Hinono’ei (Arapaho), Tsistsistas or Tsétsėhéstȧhese (Cheyenne), and Núuchiu (Ute) in Golden, CO.

About This Trip

Camp set up along the Colorado River in Cataract Canyon as the sun sets behind canyon walls creating a sunburst.

This Cataract Canyon Rivers of Resilience retreat takes us on a six-day journey through the Cycle of Resilience: daily practices that open the mind, body, and soul through reciprocity, restoration, and regeneration. We’ll start each morning with freshly brewed cowboy coffee and watch the canyon awaken with the rising sun before a yoga and meditation session on the beach, followed by a hot and nourishing breakfast before we hit the river. We’ll enjoy peaceful floating through the ancient and mystical rock formations of Canyonlands National Park, with plenty of breaks for swimming, hiking, paddleboarding, and river meditations that will help us tap into the regenerative current of the Colorado River. As the sun sets behind the canyon walls, we’ll gather for moonlit rewilding rituals, sacred sharing circles, and guided movement under the stars.

A woman strikes a yoga pose on stacked sleeping pads on top of a raft on the river.

As we head downstream, we’ll explore the reciprocity phase through ceremonies of reverence for the rivers that sustain us. This recognition of interconnection is followed by the restoration phase, where our personal healing journeys are mirrored by ecological restoration projects undertaken in collaboration with local conservation partners. The river picks up the pace for the final two days, where we’ll engage in the regeneration phase of the cycle as we take on exciting class III-IV rapids, including the infamous Big Drops. In this phase, we apply the lessons we have learned from the river to forge new pathways toward radically reimagined futures of collective resilience. As we heal the Earth, the Earth heals us.

“I had a great time finding my flow and reflected on the parallel experiences of nature and the human soul.”
– Everett Dietzler, retreat guest

To support our journey towards more authentic presence, this trip will be free of alcohol and other recreational substances. The canyon will have little to no cell phone reception, and guests will have the opportunity to experience the awe of the canyon without distraction.
