POSITION SUMMARY

The American River Food Packer is responsible for the successful planning, packing and presentation of nutritious and fulfilling meals, both on and off the river. Whether you have prior food handling experience or have worked within any one of the various food service positions, you will constantly find new challenges and opportunities to expand your current skill set while working at our American River Outpost. The ability to provide nutritious meals to guests participating in our rafting excursions is key. We need to consistently and seamlessly provide the same nutritious meals to anywhere from several to dozens to several hundred guests. The Food Packer role is vital to the success of that mission.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

 

  • Learn to effectively use our meal-planning program and reservations system to facilitate changes to meals
  • Facilitate changes to planned menus based on clients dietary needs
  • Prepare and pack multiple meals to be used on- and off-site daily
  • Assist with monitoring and maintaining inventory of commissary and camp-related items
  • Manage inventory control based on carry-over goods and fluctuating meal requirements
  • Assist in purchases of necessary groceries for single and multi-day trips
  • Assist in shopping runs to Costco as needed
  • Adhere to National and California Food Handling Standards
  • Maintain the commissary with a high standard of cleanliness
  • Care for OARS’ tools & equipment
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Regional Manager and Commissary Supervisor

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Customer service experience or superb people skills
  • Experience or willingness to work in food service industry
  • Knowledge of current food trends and special dietary needs a plus
  • Physically fit (must be able to lift 50 lbs on regular basis)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Fluent in English
  • Non-Smoker
  • Creative approach to problem solving
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Ability to adapt to fluctuating hours of work on a daily basis
  • Ability to work in hot and cold conditions
  • Legally allowed to work in the United States
  • Minimum of 21 years old
  • Ideal candidate will be available mid-April through September
  • Current Driver’s License and clean driving record required
  • Must possess or be willing to acquire CA Food Handlers License within 30 days of hire

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

  • The OARS American River operation experiences extreme weather, ranging from winter conditions, including early season snow and freezing temperatures, to triple-digit heat during the summer months
  • Wildfires are a common occurrence and can drastically diminish air quality

PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

  • May 15th-Sept 15th
  • 15-30 hour/week

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

 

  • Hourly wage is $16-18/hour DOE
