OARS is seeking both a full- and part-time Food Packer for our American River operation in Lotus, CA.

One key component of a successful adventure is the proper planning, packing, and presentation of nutritious and fulfilling meals.

Whether you have prior food handling experience or have worked within any one of the number of food service positions, you will constantly find new challenges and opportunities to expand your current skill set while working at our South Fork of the American operation. During our spring rafting season the ability to provide nutritious meals to small groups of clients participating in our rafting excursions is key; as we move into our busy times in the middle of summer we need to provide the same nutritious meals to dozens and sometimes hundreds of clients seamlessly.




  • Learn and effectively use our meal-planning program and reservations system to plan meals
  • Economically purchase necessary groceries for single- and multi-day trips
  • Adhere to National Food Handling Standards
  • Facilitate changes to planned menus based on clients dietary needs
  • Manage the food room with a high standard of cleanliness
  • Maintain sufficient supply of food for scheduled trips
  • Prepare and pack multiple meals to be used off-site daily
  • Collaborate with the Area Manager to monitor the food budget, to place orders in preparation for trips
  • Care for OARS’ tools & equipment
  • Edit and improve Food Room Manager Manual
  • Transport and create an appealing presentation for single day trips
  • Manage inventory control based on carry-over goods and fluctuating meal requirements
  • Adhere to Seven Principles of Leave No Trace at all times
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Area Manager



  • Currently, we can only accept applicants who can legally work in the United States
  • Minimum 21 years old
  • Ideal Candidate will be available early-April through September
  • Current Drivers License and clean driving record
  • Must possess, or be willing to acquire, a CA Food Handlers License within 30 days of hire
  • Customer service experience or superb people skills
  • Knowledge of current food trends and special dietary needs a plus
  • Experience or willingness to work in food service industry
  • Capable of working long hours
  • Physically fit (must be able to lift 50 lbs)

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Ability to adapt to fluctuating hours of work on a daily basis

Full and part-time positions available


April 1st – May 1st, Sept 15-Oct 1st:   20-30 hours per week 

May 1st – Sept 15:   40 hours per week with variable schedule


May 15th – Sept 15th:   20 hours based on 2-3 days per week
