Where did you grow up?
Where do you call home now?
Wherever my heart is.
Year started at OARS?
What’s the best part of your job?
The sublime silence that permeates wild lands. The sound of Ponderosas growing and ospreys flying. I love watching people surrender to the experience, in allowing their worries to slide away, they often discover things about themselves. Oh, and I love a good riverside costume party. Sequins, tutus, and wigs are the best!
Tell us about your favorite rapid, hike or camp and what makes it special
I love the bun-buster hike up Camas Creek to the overlook of Camas and the Middle Fork Salmon confluence. I always feel I’m getting a bighorn sheep’s glimpse of the Frank Church. -Extraordinary!
Do you have a lucky charm or special river tradition?
I’ve been known to apply bright, obnoxiously red lipstick before descending into big rapids. It brings me a little balance/laughter, and calms my nerves. Plus, I like looking fancy for the rapid. Shows my respect for her prowess.
What can you not live without on a trip?
My multi-purpose sarong. It’s a towel, sun protection, cooling agent! it’s a dress! It’s a cape!
Fun fact, special talent or favorite guiding memory
I’m a massage therapist who makes an awesome fish face. (Not usually at the same time.)
