About me

My passion is being in the moment with nature's gifts. Cannot get enough outdoor time.

The Best Part of My Job

My greatest reward in guiding is watching group dynamics evolve. So many transformations take place, in which clients tell jokes, sing, dance, tell stories, create new friendships, and self-discover, all of which take place due to the environment and guide pool.

How I found OARS

Was living in a tepee on the Stanislaus River and would see OARS boats float by. Made a connection with one of their boatman, and he indicated there was a white water school taking place and that I should enroll. Forty-five years later, I’m still obsessed with rivers.

My Favorite Spot on the River/Outdoors

The Grand Canyon has a multitude of premier hikes. Thunder River comes to mind. It features a cascading waterfall that comes out of an underground aquifer a thousand feet below the rim. This waterfall creates one of the most beautiful green belts in the middle of the desert. Its flora is surrounded by monkey flowers, madden hair ferns, orchids, and a host of desert plants. This could well be the most flora-diverse place on the planet.

My Favorite Trip Memory

Leading a trip which the Make-A-Wish Foundation sponsored for a young girl with terminal cancer. This was a time of humility and honor.

My Lucky Charm

Always say an individual prayer to each and every boat before the entry of a major rapid.

I Can’t Live Without

Optimism and my buffalo head nickel I found in a Navajo bar.
