Can’t join us for the event? As part of our month-long Pride Month initiative, when you raft the South Fork of the American River with OARS any Sunday – Friday during the entire month of June we’ll donate $5 per person to the Sacramento LGBT Community Center. Last year, with the help of our guests, we were able to raise more than $4,000 for the organization.
“You save what you love, and you love what you know,” is an expression that George Wendt, the founder of OARS, was especially fond of. He started OARS with the goal of taking people of all walks of life out on rivers, because he knew that the more personal something is to you, the harder you will fight to protect it.
We know the LGBTQ+ members of our river family, and the greater outdoor community, need to be acknowledged and advocated for. The only time anybody should feel like an ‘outsider’ is when they are climbing a mountain, splashing through rapids, or sleeping under the stars.
So get out there, show your pride, and splash through the adrenaline-inducing Class III rapids of the South Fork American River for Pride Month.
The Sacramento LGBT Community Center works to create a region where LGBTQ+ people thrive. They support the health and wellness of the most marginalized, advocate for equality and justice, and work to build a culturally rich LGBTQ+ community.
