Pride Day Rafting on the American
On Saturday, June 12—honored as Pulse Remembrance Day—OARS is extending a 25% discount on any 1/2-, 1-, or 2-day rafting trip on the South Fork of the American River near Sacramento. This offer is open to the LGBTQ+ community and allies, because our public lands should be a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.
“You save what you love, and you love what you know,” is an expression that George Wendt, the founder of OARS, was especially fond of. He started OARS with the goal of taking people of all walks of life out on rivers, because he knew that the more personal something is to you, the harder you will fight to protect it.
We know the LGBTQ+ members of our river family, and the greater outdoor community, need to be acknowledged and advocated for. The only time anybody should feel like an ‘outsider’ is when they are climbing a mountain, splashing through rapids, or sleeping under the stars.
So get outside, show your pride, and splash through the adrenaline-inducing Class III rapids of the South Fork American River for a fun-filled day of adventure and community at the OARS American River Outpost in Lotus on June 12. Plus, OARS is donating $5 per person to the Sacramento LGBT Community Center for everyone who rafts the South Fork with us on the 12th, or any Sunday – Friday for the entire month of June!
The Sacramento LGBT Community Center works to create a region where LGBTQ+ people thrive. They support the health and wellness of the most marginalized, advocate for equality and justice, and work to build a culturally rich LGBTQ+ community.
