Payette’s namesake, François Payette, was a French-Canadian trapper whose legacy is captured in numerous Idaho landmarks. The name has since become synonymous with an adventurous spirit that pervades Idaho’s year-round outdoor lifestyle and perfectly fits the company’s attitude and philosophy.

About This Trip

Rafting on the Lower Salmon River in Idaho

Spend your days rafting the Lower Salmon River, experiencing not just one but four incredible gorges interspersed with wide-open vistas and plenty of opportunities for side excursions. Perhaps you’ll make your way to view ancient pictographs or the remains of Chinese stone houses. Or maybe you’ll experience hiking up to a vista point with unforgettable views. If you’re lucky, you may even spot the elusive cougar meandering through the canyon. With no shortage of awe-inspiring locations to visit as you travel downriver, you’re guaranteed to leave with life-long memories that will make all your friends jealous.

After pulling into camp for the day, everyone will unload the rafts, and you can find the perfect spot to set up your tent for the night. Once you’ve settled into your home for the evening, you can make your way over to try delicious Payette brews–presented with a fun and educational discussion by a representative from the brewery–while your guides get some delectable h’ordeuvres ready for you. While you wait, you can join the chair circle to continue getting to know your newfound friends or engage in fun riverside games with your fellow rafters. If you’re an avid angler, consider bringing your gear for excellent fishing on the Lower Salmon. With ample options for fun, your evenings at camp will become some of your favorite moments on the trip.

When dinner is ready, you’ll be blown away by the culinary genius of your river guides as they serve up wild-caught Alaskan salmon, grilled steaks, and pork carnitas in this backwoods setting. What could be better than an evening by the river with good food, good people, and craft beer? If you think of something, we’ll be waiting.
