World Rivers: Guatemala - Overview

Guatemala is rich in both culture and environment, with access to rainforests, rivers and ancient architecture. On this trip we’ll explore the Class III-IV whitewater of the Nahualate, Coyolate and Cahabón Rivers and explore vast underground caverns of the Kamba and Lanquin caves—we’ll even float through the underground river system. When we’re not on the water or underground, we’ll explore the diverse history of Guatemala through incredible Mayan ruins, including Tikal, Yaxha and Quirigua.

World Rivers: Guatemala - Itinerary at a Glance

  • Fly to Guatemala City and transfer to colonial Antigua. Enjoy a welcome dinner
  • Raft the Class IV Nahualate River and the Class III Coyolate River
  • Travel to the Yaxha archaeological site
  • Explore the Yaxha ruins and search for wildlife from our hotel by the lake
  • Spend a day at Tikal, the largest and most wellpreserved known Mayan ruin
  • Tube the underground water system of La Candelaria
  • Swim in turquoise pools and see the 1000-foot natural bridge at Semuc Champey
  • Spelunk in the Kamba and Lanquin caves
  • Raft the Class IV Cahabón River, with opportunities to explore caves, waterfalls, hot springs and rainforest
  • Boat down the Rio Dulce Gorge to the Caribbean
  • Visit the Garifuna in Livingstone, an enclave of black culture in Latin America
  • Behold the famous Mayan stelae statues in Quirigua
  • Enjoy a farewell dinner and a night in Guatemala City before your flight home
