What’s the best part of your job?
Sitting back with my feet up on the desk watching our Self-Running Operation Machine run itself!
Tell us about your favorite rapid, hike or camp and what makes it special
Kolb Camp in Cataract Canyon. This camp, between Big Drop 2 and Big Drop 3, is such a cool place to camp because at higher flows not only is the camp under water but it’s the backdrop for the big and wild highwater rides of Cat; however when the camp is available at lower flows, it becomes a relaxing camp between the two most significant rapids in Cataract and a prime place to reflect and tell stories.
Do you have a lucky charm or special river tradition?
Hot coffee at any time of the day during any time of the year is a must.
What can you not live without on a trip?
A full size pillow!
Fun fact, special talent or favorite guiding memory
My first OARS trip was rowing a baggage boat on the Yampa during highwater. The river was so high that only the table tops of the picnic tables at the put-in were above water and I was so new to rowing boats with open oar locks that I was concerned that I might wrap on the picnic table once we launched!
About me…
I’ve got an amazing wife, an incredible daughter and two mutts that think they’re humans. I love getting outside, period, be it on the river, a short hike or a simple camping trip. I also love to disappear in the desert on my motorcycle.
