Where did you grow up?
Where do you call home now?
Year started at OARS?
What’s the best part of your job?
I love the tribe that forms on every trip. There is a magic in being thrown into the depths of the canyon with a group of people that you’ve never met before and in normal circumstances would never have the chance to know. The power of traveling and living together in the wilderness is a privilege that many modern people never experience.
It connects us to a way of living that we all remember deep in our bones. I just feel so dang lucky every time I’m down in the Canyon. I’m happiest there.
Tell us about your favorite rapid, hike or camp and what makes it special
My favorite places are kept a secret until we’re down there 🙂
Do you have a lucky charm or special river tradition?
I continue to make offerings in my own way to the wild places we travel through. I’m not superstitious but I respect deeply the power of the water, stones, plants and animals that make up the rivers we run. We should not only take from these places but give back through our creativity. It’s important to me to make music and other uniquely human gifts while down there and offer these to the powers that make up the places we visit.
What can you not live without on a trip?
At least a few sunny days to take a bath!
