Tell us about your favorite rapid, hike or camp and what makes it special
There is a hike on the Main Salmon that goes up to a small grove of Yew trees. They have been isolated over time to a unique micro-climate. Twenty minutes of silence amongst this rare group of trees will reveal a positive energy and an air of peacefulness. They welcome friends with open arms. Perhaps they miss their family. My mind always seems to be drawn to the family and friends that are important to me. Past and present. There is a calming effect of spending some time with your thoughts in this grove of trees. You feel it.
Do you have a lucky charm or special river tradition?
I can only cook breakfast while wearing leopard print velour.
What can you not live without on a trip?
Electrolytes
Fun fact, special talent or favorite guiding memory
Running Warm Springs rapid on the Yampa on it’s birthday four years ago. It was the second highest water level on record. And it was very exciting!
