About me

Born and raised on the Vineyard (Martha's Vineyard). College in Vermont, which is an excellent state. I traded island life for desert life at 19. Became addicted to the rivers and the mountains and the lifestyle. Seeing others happy makes me happy. And riding bikes, ski touring, music, cloud formations, etc. Ski patrolling in the winter is my other real job.

The Best Part of My Job

Humor.

How I found OARS

Not sure what I was looking for, but I found it in Vernal, UT, and Dinosaur National Monument in 2007. Worked for Meg Hatch as she finalized the sale of Don Hatch River Expeditions to George. Incredible first season. Kept coming back. Started working more around the Colorado Basin. Every season keeps offering what seems like a lifetime of engaging experiences and memories, and I can't stop.

My Favorite Spot on the River/Outdoors

Confluences are such a neat space. Echo Park, where the Yampa meets the Green in Dinosaur National Monument. The Center of the Universe, the Green and Colorado in Canyonlands. Little Colorado into the main in Grand Canyon. Countless side streams. The water below an island. Fascinating on many levels.

My Favorite Trip Memory

The first two Powell Party Retrace trips in June 2019 and Sept. 2020 were quite the expedition. Went off in good style and good fun, with many an obstacle successfully hurdled. Someone should write a book about it.

I Can’t Live Without

Food and water.

My Fun Fact

Before guiding, I once worked as a cobbler in Schubert's Shoe Shoppe.
