Save the Colorado Fundraiser: Desolation Canyon 6 Days

Gary Wockner, PhD | Executive Director, Co-Founder, and Board Chair of Save the Colorado

Join Gary on this unique trip through Desolation Canyon.  Proceeds to benefit Save the Colorado, which works to protect and restore the Colorado River and its tributaries.

This scenic canyon received its name from John Wesley Powell during his historic descent of the Green and Colorado Rivers.

Far from desolate, the towering red rock walls hide petroglyphs, Native American ruins and abandoned homesteads for the adventurous to rediscover.  Enjoy the shade of the Cottonwood tree groves, relax on big sandy beaches, and spot the eagles and bighorn sheep that inhabit this river corridor.

Over the 84-mile stretch, we’ll encounter more than 50 splashy Class II-III rapids along with peaceful stretches, perfect for contemplation, paddling an inflatable kayak, or trying out a stand up paddleboard, making it an entertaining choice for travelers of all ages and experience levels.

Save The Colorado’s mission is to protect and restore the Colorado River and its tributaries from the source to the sea.  Save The Colorado focuses on fighting irresponsible water projects, supporting alternatives to proposed dams and diversions, fighting and adapting to climate change, supporting river and fish species restoration, and removing deadbeat dams.  On this special departure, approximately 45% of your trip cost will go to supporting the Save the Colorado organization.
