Position Summary
The Social Media Assistant at OARS is a creative, detail-oriented storyteller who is active on social media. You’re a strong writer with a good visual eye, a solid understanding of major platforms, and the ability to turn photos, videos, and ideas into engaging, on-brand posts.
In this role, you’ll support the Marketing team with day-to-day execution of OARS’ social channels, including content creation, scheduling, and community engagement. A primary focus of this position will be implementing and managing a structured program to capture content from OARS field staff—helping identify opportunities, set clear guidelines, and coordinate compensation for submitted media.
This is a remote position averaging 10 hours per week, with the potential to grow into a broader digital marketing contract with the company. You’ll work closely with the Content Marketing Manager and Marketing team to help showcase OARS trips, guides, destinations, and conservation efforts across social platforms.
Essential Duties
- Social Media Support
- Adapt existing photo and video assets into engaging, on-brand social media content
- Assist with writing, curating, scheduling, and moderating at least 3 channel-specific social media posts on Facebook and Instagram weekly
- Support the Marketing team with additional posts on LinkedIn, Pinterest, Reddit, YouTube and Google/Apple/Microsoft Maps & Business Profile pages, as needed
- Identify opportunities to repurpose long-form content (blogs, films, emails) into social-friendly formats
- Support the execution of social media campaigns tied to trip launches, seasonal promotions, partnerships, films, and conservation initiatives
- Maintain a consistent brand voice and visual style across all social platforms
- Assist with sourcing and organizing user-generated content and guide-submitted media
- Guide Content Program Development
- Help launch and manage a structured program for capturing social media content from OARS field staff
- Create clear guidelines and best practices for guide-submitted photo and video content
- Coordinate content submissions, tracking, approvals, and payment for staff-generated assets
- Community Engagement & Monitoring
- Monitor comments, messages, and mentions across social platforms and flag potentially problematic commentary to the Content Marketing Manager
- Assist with timely, thoughtful responses that reflect OARS’ voice and values
- Share basic performance insights and recommendations to help inform future content planning
- Other Responsibilities
- Support digital asset organization and tagging within the company’s photo and video library
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong writing skills with the ability to create concise, engaging, on-brand social media copy
- Solid understanding of major social media platforms and best practices
- An eye for strong visuals and basic photo/video editing experience
- Highly organized and comfortable managing systems, workflows, and deadlines
- Self-motivated and able to work independently in a remote environment
- Familiarity with Canto and HubSpot’s social media management tools a plus
- Experience working in Google Workspace
- Relevant experience in social media, content, or digital marketing within the outdoor industry strongly preferred

Working Conditions
- Remote
- Long periods sitting or standing and using office equipment and computers, which can cause muscle strain
- Scheduled and unscheduled meetings with coworkers and managers are customary
- Occasional tight deadlines and quick project turnarounds
Compensation
- Seasonal (March – August) with the possibility of extension based on company needs and performance
- $20-$25 per hour depending on experience; up to 12 hours per week
- Up to 10 hours of sick leave per year, based on hours worked
