Guest Perspective: Chunnie Wright

OARS guest Chunnie Wright, a busy attorney based in Washington D.C., was able to take a break from the high-stakes environment of the courtroom for the ancient, towering walls of the Grand Canyon

She joined us for an Upper Canyon rafting trip on the Colorado River from Lees Ferry to Pipe Creek, capped off with a challenging 7.7-mile hike out via the Bright Angel Trail.

For Chunnie, the trip wasn’t just a vacation; it was a birthday celebration and a new promise for how she wants to live her next trip around the sun.

“Today is my birthday and all I know is that I want more,” Chunnie says in the video. “More adventures to new places, cold water splashes, slot canyon showers, and hikes that leave me huffing and puffing.”

“I want more sunrises,” she says, “so I can drain every drop of happiness out of each one.”

From playing frisbee in the massive, echoing limestone of Redwall Cavern to swimming in the surreal, turquoise waters of the Little Colorado River, Chunnie found the “more” she was looking for.

Whether you are celebrating a milestone birthday like Chunnie or simply looking to reconnect with a version of yourself that isn’t tied to a desk, the Canyon is waiting.
