Cascading down from the eastern Himalaya of Bhutan , the Drangme Chhu challenges us with up to Class IV+ whitewater amidst dramatic mountain scenery. Our adventure spans Bhutan from Paro in the west, crossing several high passes, culminating in our put-in on the Drangme Chhu in the east. Enjoy both hotel stays and camping with hearty, delectable local cuisine. Discover the well-kept secret that is the “Land of the Thunder Dragon.”

Itinerary at a Glance:

  • Hike to the Tiger’s Nest Monastery, perched more than 3,000 ft. above Paro
  • Warm up our paddling skills on the refreshing Pho Chhu
  • Run the Class IV Upper Mangde Chhu concluding with a cultural festival and sumptuous feast at our camp along the river
  • Raft through the Ema Datzi Canyon of the Lower Mangde Chhu
  • Visit a Chumey Valley weaving center before reaching Bumthang
  • See Languar Monkeys, diverse birdlife and picturesque views of Bhutan’s highest peaks
  • Discover the exhilarating, Class IV+ Upper Drangme Chhu
  • The Class III Lower Drangme Chhu opens up to tropical forests and local villages
  • Finally, we visit Manas Wildlife Park for an elephant/jeep safari
