What’s the best part of your job?

The connection you make with people that can only happen on a multi day back country rafting trip!

Tell us about your favorite rapid, hike or camp and what makes it special

This is a hard one… I’ll pick a favorite day. Day 2 or Hells Half Mike day. On day 2 of the Gates of Lodore you run into Hell’s Half Mile, my favorite rapid of the trip. As you float towards it a big calm pool of water appears to fall away at the rivers horizon line like an infinity pool. With the anticipation mounting you pull over to scout the rapid and take a look at what’s on the other side of that horizon line. It’s a big class 3-4 that is sure to get your adrenaline pumping! 10 minutes after making your way through the rapid you pull over at one of my favorite camps, Rippling Brook. Rippling Brook has a big beach for a fun afternoon of beach games, cooling off in the swimming hole, and relaxing in the shade. Once we’ve feasted on lunch, played some games, splashed around and had a siesta we get to hike up Rippling Brook to a waterfall with great views of the river canyon along the way. Cap it all off at night with a possible ring tail cat sighting… or visit.

Do you have a lucky charm or special river tradition?

A Nyami Nyami

What can you not live without on a trip?

My fellow guides. I love the folks I get to work with. We have a great crew in Dino with almost all guides being returning guides so it’s great knowing that when things need to be done everyone is going to pitch in and help and know what needs to happen.

Fun fact, special talent or favorite guiding memory

I love playing music around the campfire at night. Have a song request? Well we don’t have internet in the canyon so print off some music and lyrics before the trip and bring them with you!
