What’s the best part of your job?

Working with and being inspired by the OARS team. A group of people brought together by a goal to share and preserve the beautiful wilderness that surrounds us while encouraging curiosity and adventure in the hearts of friends and strangers.

Tell us about your favorite rapid, hike or camp and what makes it special

Eye of the Needle Camp on the Lower Salmon in Idaho. It has a huge flat rock that overlooks the Eye of the Needle Rapid that I make into my master bedroom… complete with a view of the sunrise and the ambient sound of rushing water.

Do you have a lucky charm or special river tradition?

Singing on the boat. Every day. All day.

What can you not live without on a trip?

Chapstick!

Fun fact, special talent or favorite guiding memory

My sisters and I lost our cat when I was 10. We went door to door looking for him including OARS Dories which was just down the block. With that my oldest sister got her first job at OARS and my other sister and I followed suit. Although I may not have found exactly what I was looking for when I knocked on the door at OARS all those years ago, I did find a part of me that I didn’t know was lost.

P.S. The cat was fine, he accidentally got closed into a closet.
