What’s the best part of your job?

Introducing and sharing all that the Grand Canyon has to offer to our amazing guests. Seeing the wonderment that comes from each person as they discover the beauty hidden in the depths of the Canon.

Tell us about your favorite rapid, hike or camp and what makes it special

As boaters approach Horn Creek Rapid below Phantom Ranch in the Grand Canyon, they are given a very dramatic view of the river’s horizon disappearing before them. Walls of Vishnu Schist on each side of the channel rise vertically hundreds of feet out of the water creating, what seems to be, an impassible obstacle. Just at the top of the rapid you see two “horns” of water 40 feet apart which, at the right water level, you can split and drop off the face of the earth. Actually, once you pass the horns, boaters experience large rolling waves coming off the right wall, all capable of swallowing an 18ft raft whole. After these thrilling rides, the boat then shoots towards the left wall where all the current goes. At the end of the rapid, the waters calm and you look back upstream to see the dramatic beauty that you just experienced.
