OARS’ Cataract Canyon Trip Recognized as “Best Rafting Trip”

MOAB, UT, August 29, 2019 — OARS’ Cataract Canyon Whitewater Rafting Trip in Utah has been awarded this year’s “Best Rafting Trip” by Sunset magazine.

For the second time in recent years, veteran outfitter OARS has been recognized with a Sunset Travel Award as one of 33 overall winners from a field of more than 1000 entrants who represent the very best in lodging, dining, cultural tourism, outdoor adventure, tourist attractions, festivals, and more. To find the best, Sunset’s editorial staff judged submissions based on the following criteria: relevance to their audience, newsworthiness, uniqueness, aesthetic appeal and convenience, and feasibility.

OARS’ Cataract Canyon rafting trip is an all-inclusive adventure on a 95-mile stretch of the Colorado River through Canyonlands National Park with legendary Class III – IV rapids, sensational hikes, seasonal waterfalls and otherworldly scenery. Trips begin and end in Moab, UT and include professional guide service, all expedition equipment, fresh & hearty meals, and a scenic flight at the end of the trip over Canyonlands National Park back to Moab. The per person rate for a six-day trip is $1799 for adults and $1699 for youth 15 and under. There is also a four-day trip option that costs $1649 for adults and $1549 for youth, plus new for 2020, OARS will be offering three-day “express” trips from $1399 per person during peak flows.

From April through mid-October families with kids as young as nine can tackle Cataract Canyon’s Class III – IV rapids except during periods of high water, typically May – June, when the minimum age is 16 and there’s potential for Class V whitewater. Winding through the canyons and towering red rock walls, guests enjoy stunning scenery, huge sandy beaches, swimming, Native American ruins, and star-filled skies. Days on the river are broken up with spectacular side hikes, visits to Ancestral Puebloan ruins, stand up paddleboarding or inflatable kayaking, and friendly games of horseshoes, volleyball, and bocce matches in the evenings.

A recent OARS guest described his experience in Cataract Canyon this way: “The trip was expertly organized and featured a great balance of paddling, motoring, and day hikes. Our guides not only shared with us the wonders of their river but also gently and effortlessly instructed us in geology, astronomy, anthropology, and paleontology. In addition to guiding, they also prepared delicious, healthful meals every day and made sure that we were all comfortable and safe. This is a great trip for couples, singles, families, and people of all ages. Can’t recommend it enough!”

OARS vice president of sales and marketing, Steve Markle, had this to say about the award: “This award is a well-deserved recognition for all the hard work and stellar customer service our guides and staff put forth to make our trips truly life-changing for our guests. And, to have our Cataract Canyon trip in the company of so many other world-class travel experiences is a real honor.”
