OARS, one of the most respected outfitters in adventure travel, is seeking a Full-Time Seasonal Commissary and Office Manager based in Moab, Utah  This is a non-exempt position that would be eligible for health benefits and participation on the 401(k)-retirement plan.

  • Current Driver’s License and clean driving record
  • Must possess, or be willing to acquire, a UT Food Managers License within 30 days of hire
  • Multi-day Guiding experience is a bonus
  • Customer service experience or superb people skills
  • Knowledge of current food trends and special dietary needs a plus
  • Experience or willingness to work in food service industry
  • Capable of working long hours
  • Physically fit (must be able to lift 50 lbs)

  • Oversee all aspects of the commissary & food packs
    • Properly open and close down food room at season beginning & end
    • Maintain current Food Manager certification
    • Stay current with NPS & other agency food handling requirements
    • Ensure food room is kept clean and to standards
    • Oversee & conduct purchasing of food
      • Maintain inventory
      • Evaluate food needs on trip and minimize food waste
      • Meet with returning trips consistently to assess the above
    • Create and plan menus as needed
      • Ensure critical attention is paid to food allergies and dietary restrictions
    • Pack food for trips with assistance as needed
      • Directly supervise a food room helper as needed
    • Plan & prep derig dinners
    • Client Screening
      • Routinely look at Advance & Roster notes for dietary needs
      • Respond to dietary flags as necessary via phone or email to ensure proper accommodations for dietary needs
      • Inform and educate guides of allergy & dietary concerns on trip
    • Supervise commissary during a derig twice per month. Train guides on commissary procedures & monitor food waste.
    • Seasonally clean and/or service refrigerators & freezers


  • Be familiar with Risk Management plan and Emergency Evacuation protocols
  • Schedule and maintain flights for all trips requiring them
  • Schedule and maintain shuttles not mainly run by OARS
  • Submit receipts & invoices weekly and maintain records
  • Reconcile invoices before approving payment
  • Submit Payroll with Regional Manager’s approval
  • Submit launch cards and maintain use numbers. Submit use numbers quarterly to NPS
  • Generate vinyl decals for vehicles with Cricut machine
  • Schedule and supervise warehouse support staff


  • Occasionally designated as Emergency Contact for 24 hour as needed and directed by Regional Manager
  • Supervise guides and staff to ensure they are following company policies & procedures
  • Meet weekly with Regional Manager and Trip Manager
  • Attend annual staff training trip
  • Assist in rigs and derigs as needed and directed by Regional Manager
  • Assist in driving shuttles as needed and directed by Regional Manager
  • Assist in greeting customers after trips as needed and directed by Regional Manager
  • Assist in other operation needs as needed and directed by Regional Manager
  • Seek additional projects during slow periods in the season



Hourly wages (based on 40 hours per week)
$15.00 – $17.00 per hour depending on experience

Merit increases, dependent on individual and company performance, considered on an annual basis
