JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Food Packer
Department: Operations
Reports to: California Operations Managers
# of Direct Reports: None
Location (if applicable): Lotus, CA
Job Status: $15.50 to $18.00 per hour, depending on experience
POSITION SUMMARY
The American River Food Packer is responsible for the successful planning, packing and presentation of nutritious and fulfilling meals, both on and off the river. Whether you have prior food handling experience or have worked in any type of food service positions, you will constantly find new challenges and opportunities to expand your skill set while working at our American River Outpost. The ability to provide nutritious meals to guests participating in our rafting excursions is key. We need to consistently and seamlessly provide the same nutritious meals to anywhere from several to dozens to several hundred guests. The Food Packer role is vital to the success of that mission.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Effectively use our meal-planning software and reservations system to plan meals
- Facilitate adjustments to menus based on guests dietary and allergy needs
- Shop, portion, and pack meals to be used on- and off-site daily
- Assist with monitoring and maintaining inventory of commissary and camp-related supplies including using care over goods to limit excess waste
- Maintain the commissary with a high standard of cleanliness, organization, and efficiency
- Assist in purchases of supplies for single and multi-day trips
- Coordinate box store trips for supplies as needed
- Adhere to National and California Food Handling Standards
- Care for OARS’ tools & equipment
- Occasional duties might include assisting with meal setup and serving to guests
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Managers
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently, we can only accept applicants who can legally work in the United States
- Minimum of 21 years old
- Current Driver’s License and clean driving record
- Experience or willingness to work in food service industry
- Knowledge of current food trends and special dietary needs a plus
- Physically fit (must be able to lift 50 lbs on regular basis)
- Team player
- Solid communication skills
- Fluent in English
- Creative approach to problem solving
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to adapt to fluctuating hours of work on a daily basis
- Ideal candidate will be available May through Mid September
- Must possess or be willing to acquire CA Food Handlers License within 30 days of hire
WORKING CONDITIONS
- The OARS American River operation experiences extreme weather, ranging from winter conditions, including early season snow and freezing temperatures, to triple-digit heat during the summer months
- Wildfires are a common occurrence and can drastically diminish air quality
