South Africa may be well-known for its game reserves and expansive deserts, but avid boaters will tell you the whitewater is among the best in the world. On this trip we escape the winters of North America to bask in the warm summer sun. We include awe-inspiring floats, adventurous Class III whitewater, and unique parks and vistas. We’ll explore the Cape of South Africa and the desert of the Namibian border. On the way, we’ll paddle beautiful and refreshing rivers, including the Breede, Palmiet, Orange and Augrabies.

World Rivers: South Africa Itinerary at a Glance

  • Arrive at Cape Town International Airport
  • Check into the Welgelegen boutique hotel and enjoy a welcome dinner
  • Paddle the serene Breede River
  • Watch for wildlife in the Kogelberg Nature Reserve while paddling the Palmiet River
  • Stay at an eco-conscious refuge overlooking Schulphoek Bay
  • Enjoy the view of the Cedarberg Mountains from the Clanwilliam Lodge
  • Experience the picturesque desert near the Namibia border
  • Raft the Orange River, with its diverse geology and wildlife
