ANGELS CAMP, CA – April 20, 2011 – O.A.R.S.’ Ultimate Grand Canyon Experience river journey has been honored as one of National Geographic Traveler Magazine’s “50 Tours of a Lifetime.” Through a competitive selection process evaluating hundreds of applicants covering everything from treks through Patagonia to bicycle tours in Europe, National Geographic Traveler chose the Ultimate Grand Canyon Experience as one of their “50 Tour of a Lifetime” for 2011.
National Geographic Traveler Magazine’s annual “50 Tours of a Lifetime” feature recognizes the 50 most authentic, most innovative, most immersive, best-guided, and most sustainable tours of 2011, as judged by the editors of National Geographic Traveler Magazine. The feature can be found online and in the May/June 2011 print edition of the magazine. National Geographic Traveler has the largest audience of any travel magazine, with more than 7.5 million readers. The “50 Tours of a Lifetime” feature is directed by Senior Editor Norie Quintos.
On the Ultimate Grand Canyon Experience O.A.R.S.’ veteran river guides lead adventurous travelers, either by inflatable oar raft or wooden-hulled dory, down 285 miles of the Colorado River from Lee’s Ferry to Lake Mead through the length of the Grand Canyon. During the 15- to 19-day expedition small groups of no more than 16 guests and 6 guides run 47 major rapids and stop along the way for side hikes, amazing vistas, waterfalls, wildlife viewing, and geology lessons. Highlights include Marble Canyon, Pre-Puebloan Ruins, Redwall Cavern, Granite Gorge, Elves Chasm, Havasu and Deer Creek Falls. All trips include professional river guides, quality gear, comfortable camping and delicious meals prepared by the guides.
