SEVEN NEW HIKING-SPECIFIC ITINERARIES ADDED TO O.A.R.S. DIVERSE TRIP OPTIONS
Angels Camp, California – January 10, 2008 – One of O.A.R.S. (Outdoor Adventure River Specialists) seven new hiking-specific trips was recognized by National Geographic Adventure Magazine as one of the “25 Best New Trips in the World”.
The eco-friendly whitewater rafting company added to its extensive adventure trip selection with a new twist: in-depth exploration on foot of intriguing destinations such as Mesa Verde and Chaco Canyon in the Four Corners region of the desert Southwest. Trips down Idaho’s Wild and Scenic Middle Fork of the Salmon River, the Green and Colorado rivers in Canyonlands National Park, and the Rogue River in Southern Oregon allow hikers access to areas that would be otherwise inaccessible. On each river adventure, rafts provide support by transporting food, cooking and camping gear, and personal items, giving guests time, freedom and mobility to explore away from the river. Guests on the Rogue River Hiker trip will have the unique opportunity to hike the entire length of the Rogue River Trail.
O.A.R.S. has always focused on hiking as a core element in many of their trips. Until recently, however, they only occasionally offered trips specifically designed for active travelers who hike and live a more active lifestyle. They responded to that need with a series of active hiking adventures that include in-depth exploration with their friendly, knowledgeable guides and combined them with all the creature comforts and delicious meals passengers have come to expect on an O.A.R.S. rafting trip. All of O.A.R.S. hiking trips access pristine wilderness, feature the very best a region has to offer and are suitable for families, friends, first-timers, veteran outdoor enthusiasts, independent and/or mature travelers.
Steve Markle, O.A.R.S. Marketing & Partnerships Director, stated, "Our guides really offer a tremendous resource of knowledge and experience when it comes to the history, geology and ecology of the areas in which we travel. When people choose O.A.R.S. to provide an adventure vacation, they expect to be fully immersed in every aspect of their destination. These are bight, well-educated travelers who want to know who and what shaped the history of the region, what the geology tells us, and how the river environment lives and breathes today. Our hiking trips offer the opportunity to really dig into an area and learn something while enjoying the active nature of an O.A.R.S. hiking vacation."
Markle added, “O.A.R.S. welcomes hikers of all ages and abilities. Our guides take individual fitness levels into consideration for the length of hikes and range of elevation and customize the pace of the hikes to the interests and needs of the group. We include a lead and a sweep guide for all hikes and will never leave anyone behind. Each adventurer experiences an active wilderness experience crafted to the individual abilities and curiosities of the group.”For more information on O.A.R.S. eco-friendly adventures, including a free 84-page color catalog, call O.A.R.S. at
