Tambopata River Rafting in Peru: Andes & Amazon - Overview
Our newest Peru rafting adventure takes us deep into the heart of the Amazon rainforest, rafting through thrilling Andean whitewater and through the lands of fascinating pre-Incan civilizations. The Tambopata Reserve and Bahuaja-Sonene National Park in northern Peru offer some of the most pristine and unspoiled areas in the Amazon basin, featuring the greatest diversity of species of mammals, trees, insects and birds on the planet. We travel from the height of the Andes Mountains into the Amazon rainforest where hawks and herons, tanagers and toucans, macaws and cuckoos, osprey and orioles serenade us. From pristine riverside camps on the Tambopata River at jungle’s edge, we may even spot monkeys, otters, caimans and capybaras.
We begin our Peru adventure vacation at 12,500 feet elevation at the cradle of Incan civilization – Lake Titicaca and descend into the Amazon jungle by paddle, encountering the thrilling whitewater of the Class III-IV Tambopata River. We visit the largest macaw parrot lick in South America and return to the center of the Incan Empire - Cusco.

"Our trip leader Pepe Soldevila was outstanding -- intelligent, knowledgeable, fun, humorous -- and he was right on top of everything. All the subordinate guides also helped make the trip wonderful. We have enjoyed all the O.A.R.S. trips we have taken in the past, but we loved the fact that this trip was so complete and all-encompassing. In addition to the river rafting, we traveled the country extensively, met many local people in many small towns, were given tours of many aspects of the country. We passed the word to everyone we met at different locations that O.A.R.S. provides the best trips, and that Pepe is an outstanding trip leader. This was the best trip we have ever taken."
