Stand Up Paddleboarding
Introducing stand up paddleboarding; a fun, new water sport that's perfect for the whole family!
SUP on the river? Who knew?
As the fastest growing water sport in the country, stand up paddleboards (SUPs) are a fun, family-friendly way to get all ages out and playing on the water. For both beginner and veteran SUPers alike, hopping on a board with a paddle in hand is a way to spice up the calm sections of a river, and an exhilarating way to ride the rapids on your next river trip with O.A.R.S. You can even fish from a SUP!
What exactly is a SUP? A SUP looks very similar to a surfboard, but has more stability and buoyancy, is propelled with a paddle while standing up, and can be taken on oceans, lakes, rivers or even pools. O.A.R.S. paddleboards are rigid like a surfboard, but inflatable like a raft, and at 10+ feet long and close to three feet wide, our SUPs are surprisingly stable. Paddling a SUP provides one of the best perspectives to be had on the river, with a full view of the scenery in front of you, and a clear view of the water passing beneath you. If you’re looking for a new way to travel down river, grab a board, paddle, and PFD, and let the explorations begin!
Not only does paddling a SUP provide a new and wider view of any river, it is also becoming a popular way for athletes to cross-train. Stand-up paddleboarding is an aerobic, full-body work out for the core, arms, legs, and back, and enhances balance and coordination. What is one of the best parts of paddling a SUP during an O.A.R.S. trip? You can bail off into the water whenever you start to break a sweat!
O.A.R.S. offers Stand Up Paddleboards on two of our popular river trips:
