The O.A.R.S. Fleet
For modern explorers and legendary pioneers alike, it is the journey that counts, not the destination. At O.A.R.S., the river, road or trail you take might only be half the story, too - your mode of transportation might very well prove to be the essence of the adventure.
We can take you wherever you want to go, by means you may have never seen. Each of our kayaks, 4x4's, bikes and boats offers an experience unto itself.
Oar Raft
Inflatable, yet sturdy. Rollicking, yet stable. A peerless sightseeing craft, great for plunging through easy-to moderate rapids. Oar rafts are piloted by your guide, who controls the boat with a long set of wooden oars. Fits three to five passengers.
Paddle Raft
Quick, maneuverable, all hands-on. The entire crew - four to six people - chips in, each with a large single blade paddle. The guide acts as "Paddle Captain." Capable of riding out all levels of whitewater, clearing drops and dodging rocks.
Oar Raft with Paddle Assist
The monster truck of the O.A.R.S. fleet. Used on most maximum intensity/Class V expeditions, this inflatable raft has two steering/propulsion modes. The guide maneuvers the raft from the rear, with two hefty wooden oars. Passengers - four to six of them - provide the power with single-blade paddles.
Dory
A river-running luxury SUV. Sleek, stylish and burly. Dories are descendents of Portuguese fishing boats, crafts used for centuries by the ocean-going seamen of Europe. These unusually adaptable craft were first used commercially in the Grand Canyon by writer / conservationist / pioneer-paddler Martin Litton in the late 60s. Hard-hulled but ultra-buoyant, dories buck through rapid after rapid, landing large drops with ease (and lots of splash!). Super-sleek and lounge-like in flat water. Room for four, navigated by your guide, who sits in the center of the boat with two large oars.
J-Rig
Our stand-alone motor rig, this big water pontoon craft is used on our 3-day and 4-day Cataract Canyon trips - fits 8 to 9 passengers.
Inflatable Kayak
Just the river and you. Easy to handle through low-to-mid intensity whitewater, even if you've never paddled before. Riding chutes, waves and drops in an inflatable kayak is almost like being a part of the river itself. A cockpit with room for one or two people.
Sea Kayak
Ultra-agile craft with limitless range, sea kayaks are perfect for intimate exploration of lakeshores and calm coastlines. These vessels work well in any depth of water - open deeps or mere inches. They're also stealthy and quick, making them perfect for close-range viewing of marine and shore life. Sea kayaking is also an increasingly popular exercise activity for the adventure set.
Whitewater Kayak
Ideal for the solo river runner or avid playboater, hard shell kayaks offer the ultimate in performance and maneuverability in just about any type of whitewater - used for our whitewater kayak instructional courses in Idaho.
