We’ve always focused on hiking as one of the core elements of many of our trips, which in some cases visit incredible hiking areas that are only accessible from the river. Until recently, however, we rarely offered trips specifically designed for our active travelers who hike, run, bike and live a more active lifestyle.
This year we’ve responded to that call with a series of active hiking adventures that all include in-depth exploration with our friendly, knowledgeable guides combined with all the creature comforts and delicious meals you’d expect on an O.A.R.S. rafting trip. From archaeology-themed safaris in the Four Corners region to a raft-supported hiking trip on the 39.5-mile Rogue River Trail in Oregon, all of our hiking trips access pristine wilderness and feature the very best a region has to offer, custom designed to meet the needs of our travelers.

O.A.R.S. Hiking Adventures
The Other Mesa Verde:
7 Days, April & May
Explore a region just as spectacular as Mesa Verde, without the long lines and crowds – featuring pristine canyons with well-preserved ruins. Hike in Ute Tribal Park to seldom seen archaeological sites and rock art.
The Other Canyonlands:
7 Days, June
Explore archaeology in canyon country as spectacular as Canyonlands National Park, but less well-known. Hike into remote canyons and float the San Juan River to the very edge of Monument Valley.
The Other Chaco Canyon:
7 Days, September
Experience a once-in-a-lifetime adventure to the seldom seen archaeological wonders of Chaco Canyon and its outlying ruins. In addition to exploring Chaco Canyon itself, we will visit several Chaco outlier sites connected by a series of ancient roads.
Rogue River Trail Hiker Special:
6 Days, May
Hike the 39.5-mile Rogue River Trail along the Wild & Scenic Rogue River with all the comforts of a rafting trip. Enjoy beautiful beach camps, abundant wildflowers, historic sites and the luxury of having the rafts carry all your gear.
Middle Fork of the Salmon Hiker Special:
6 Days, September
Intrepid travelers have the unique opportunity to experience the Middle Fork of the Salmon River as most hikers could only dream, with the expert support of our experienced guide staff. On most days we spend a few hours in the rafts traversing the Middle Fork’s incomparable whitewater, but a layover provides us with more than one full-day hike to some rarely visited gems of the Frank Church Wilderness Area.
Colorado and Green River Hiker Special:
14 Days, September
Raft 170 miles down the Colorado and Green rivers and enjoy endless hiking in Canyonlands National Park along with beautiful beach camps, waterfalls, side creeks, geologic oddities, historic sites and delicious riverside meals.
Mystical Peru – From the Source of the Amazon to the Heights of Machu Picchu:
