Grand Canyon Dory Trips - Phantom Ranch to Whitmore Wash
Overview
Beginning at the South Rim you hike 9.7 miles deep into the canyon down the beautiful Bright Angel Trail where we meet you at the river's edge. After repacking your gear, we go straight into the biggest rapids of all to finish the upper Granite Gorge. Then we have a week of visiting beautiful side streams and falls, watching the rock layers rise and fall and running fairly large rapids regularly. Spectacular side hikes pierce the shadows of the deep Inner Gorge: the emerald paradise of Elves Chasm, the 100-foot drop of Deer Creek Falls , limestone chutes of Matkatamiba Canyon , blue-green pools and numerous waterfalls of Havasu Canyon , and many others. We cap off by running the notorious Lava Falls - North America 's most renowned big drop. On the final day we arrive at Whitmore Wash where a helicopter whisks you to the rim to continue by small plane back to Las Vegas.

Itinerary at a Glance
- Beginning at the South Rim, the Bright Angel Trail twists and turns over 9 miles to the banks of the Colorado River where you meet your guides
- Almost immediately we reach some of the biggest whitewater in the canyon: Horn Creek, Granite and Hermit rapids
- On one of the biggest whitewater days in the canyon, on a stretch of river known as the “Jewels” we encounter Crystal, Sapphire, Turquoise and Ruby rapids
- Enjoy a hike to the green haven of clear pools, lush moss and ferns at Elves Chasm
- View an excellent example of the geological phenomenon, the Great Unconformity at Blacktail Canyon
- Enter the Middle Granite Gorge and a series of exciting rapids - 128 mile, Specter, Bedrock and Dubendorf
- Recount the last few day's events with a group of friends, both old and newfound over a delicious dinner of grilled salmon with a crisp salad and seasoned vegetables, topped off with melt-in-your-mouth dutch oven brownies
- Enter the Granite Narrows, the canyon's narrowest point and visit Deer Creek Falls for a refreshing dip in the clear pool beneath the falls
- Hike the limestone chutes of Matkatamiba and the travertine pools and waterfalls of Havasu Canyon
- Nearing the end of our journey into the depths of the Grand Canyon, we raft the notorious Lava Falls
- Arriving at Whitmore Wash, we board a helicopter for a scenic flight out of the canyon. At the canyon rim, a plane meets you for a flight back to Las Vegas and a final farewell to the canyon
