Take an exhilarating whitewater rafting adventure down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon in the company of a team dedicated to water conservation and river restoration.

When our friends at Teva first approached us with the concept of an IMAX film in the Grand Canyon, we were immediately interested.  But, it wasn’t until we heard the details of the storyline, the characters in the film, the strong conservation message, the partners that would be involved and the adventurous spirit of the film that we knew this was too good of an opportunity to pass up.

The story documents an epic adventure on one of America’s mightiest rivers but highlights an even bigger, more vital challenge, the story of a looming water crisis—the global disappearing act of fresh, clean water and wild rivers.  The cast includes two of the world’s most prominent environmental crusaders—Robert F. Kennedy Jr., whom Time magazine called a “hero for the planet”, and anthropologist/author, Wade Davis, whose remote explorations have garnered him the title of “a real-life Indiana Jones”—as well as their daughters Kick and Tara, each days away from starting college.

While we were honored to have been selected to support the project, we were initially a bit concerned with the monumental task (and cost) of facilitating a film project of this magnitude, but MacGillivray Freeman Films is the most experienced independent producer and distributor of special venue (70mm) motion pictures in the world, and with a little help from the team at Teva, they made the job look easy.

Grand Canyon Adventure: River at Risk is MacGillivray Freeman’s first film created for both IMAX and IMAX 3D Theaters.  Production on the Colorado took the 300-pound IMAX camera from the canyon rim, to Redwall Cavern, through the rollercoaster rapids of Lava Falls and even up to the Native American granaries at Nankoweap for one of the most spectacular downriver views in the canyon.

Featuring songs and music by the Dave Matthews Band and a 3D experience unmatched on the giant screen, Grand Canyon Adventure premiered on March 14, 2008 at IMAX theaters wolrdwide.

O.A.R.S. Grand Canyon, Inc. is an authorized concessioner of Grand Canyon National Park.
