Luva River: Fiji Inflatable Kayaking - Overview
If you’re looking for a fun and entertaining Fiji adventure, you'll love kayaking the 'luva River on Fiji's island of Viti Levu which combines four uniquely Fijian adventures into one perfect action-packed day. Warmed by the hot southern hemisphere sunshine, and unconditionally hospitable, the Wainikoroiluva River ripples past friendly villages and remarkably lush canyons, like a deep dream. Waterfalls, exotic creatures, and beautiful bottomless pools paint a picture framed by the cool cusp of the jungle's towering canopy and misty canyon walls. Travel along the 'luva River is provided by sturdy, steerable inflatable kayaks, craft ideally suited for running Class II rapids, in a river that flows from humid mountain highcountry far down to the ocean's saltwater surf.
Kayaking on the Luva River: Itinerary at a Glance
- Meet at the Rivers Fiji office in Pacific Harbour and climb aboard our highland carrier for a breathtaking overland journey into the highlands. Enjoy incredible views of the ocean and nearby islands before beginning our descent in to the stunning Namosi Valley
- Visit the charming riverside village of Nakavika where friendly locals welcome visitors with a tour and a traditional kava ceremony before inflatable kayaking the fun Class II whitewater of the ‘luva River
- We’ll have lunch on a beach beside the river before spending more time kayaking the playful waters of the 'luva
- A bit further downstream, we’ll come to a verdant grotto where twisting vines and lush ferns soften the black volcanic cliffs
- A short scenic walk from the river brings us to the base of an 80-foot waterfall plummeting down the face of a sheer cliff where a crystalline pool forms a delightful swimming hole
- In the early afternoon we’ll reach the village of Namuamua and the confluence of the ‘luva and Upper Navua rivers. We’ll roll up the kayaks and board a motorized longboat for the remainder of the journey, winding through another breathtaking canyon with many waterfalls, exotic birds and giant fruit bats
- We’ll then meet our truck near the village of Nakavu and make the 30-minute drive back to Pacific Harbour

“The friendliness of our guides and the ability to visit the village and speak to the chief were really great. The kids in the village were cute, too. Scenery was beautiful and the guides were there to get me out of any jam I found myself in.”

“I enjoyed the overall adventure. Not only was the kayaking great but the ride in, the visit to the village, etc. was all great. It made for a wonderful day and was actually the best day of our 2 week trip!”
Christine Richards ~ Poway, CA
“We loved visiting the village and having an opportunity to have a Kava Ceremony with the elders in the village. We thoroughly enjoyed getting to visit the school (we had several teachers on the trip and so graciously added a trip to the school for us to see the primary school). We enjoyed Andre, our guide, and Toby's tour of the village. Andre shared GREAT banana bread with us (and I never thought I liked banana bread). All in all it was a wonderful experience.”
