This multi-sport British Columbia, Canada camping adventure will keep adventurous outdoor enthusiasts busy from start to finish. The combination of a private charter flight over countless glaciers, tumultuous rapids, breathtaking scenery, and world-class cuisine make for an unforgettable 5-day, 4-night Canadian adventure, full of both challenge and excitement. Your action-packed days are filled with B.C. rafting, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking; while nights are spent under the stars in a deluxe camp setting.

Chilko-Taseko River Camping Adventure: Itinerary at a Glance

  • Our Chilko-Taseko multi-sport BC adventure begins in Vancouver with an incredible scenic flight over the mountains and glaciers to Chilcotin country (Puntzi or Anahim Lake)
  • Meet our guides, and spend the afternoon hiking or canoeing around the Bluff Lake area
  • Explore breathtaking mountain scenery, vivid blue waters and endless fields of wildflowers around Tatlayoko Lake by horseback
  • Camp at the headwaters of Chilko Lake and River and spend the day paddling the lake and picnicking on sandy beaches. In the afternoon, hike Mount Tullin for 360-degree views or cast away with a fly or spin rod
  • Head downstream and descend through Lava Canyon and challenge the longest, continuous stretch of whitewater on the continent
  • Heart stopping hydraulics and towering, standing waves cascade for more than 18 miles through deep and narrow lava gorges, making for some non-stop excitement
  • Camp near the junction of the Taseko River
  • Challenge the Taseko. With a similar gradient to the Chilko and even less traveled, participants can expect long narrow canyons that twist and turn through as we ride the cascading torrent downstream for mile upon mile
  • Stretch your legs on some great biking or hiking trails near the junction of the Taseko and Chilko River before returning to civilization

What to bring on the Chilko-Taseko Multi-Sport Camping trip


This is a sample list. Please refer to your trip planner for a detailed list for your particular trip. If you do not already own any of the items on the suggested packing list feel free to call our office for suggestions. However, many of the items listed are available for purchase online in the OARStore. Please be mindful of the natural environment when purchasing items for your trip. Whenever possible, consider recyclable containers, rechargeable batteries, natural (non-toxic) sunscreens, lotions, biodegradable soaps, and so on.

Personal Equipment List

Footwear:

  • 1 pair light hiking boots with appropriate numbers of socks
  • 1 pair river sandals (Tevas are great) with neoprene socks and/or wetsuit booties
  • 3 pairs warm wool socks

Upper Body:

  • 2 long-sleeved shirts
  • 2 quick dry T-shirts
  • 2 long underwear tops (synthetic)
  • 1 pile or fleece jackets (medium or expedition weight)
  • 1 high-quality waterproof rain jacket

Lower Body:

  • 2 pairs long underwear bottoms (synthetic). On early and later departures, add a pair of fleece pants.
  • 1-2 pairs of quick-dry shorts
  • 1-2 pairs of quick-dry pants
  • 1 pair high-quality waterproof rain pants
  • Undergarments
  • 1 swimsuit

Head & Hands:

  • 1 sun hat or visor (fleece hat for early and late season departures)
  • 1 pair paddling gloves (optional)

Additional Gear:

  • 1-liter water bottle with securing strap
  • Toiletry kit (biodegradable soap and shampoo, personal medications)
  • Sunscreen, lip salve, insect repellent
  • Sunglasses with safety strap and/or extra prescription glasses (if necessary)
  • Notebook, journal, reading material
  • Binoculars and camera (don’t forget to bring lots of film and store gear properly)
  • Fishing rod, with case and tackle (optional)
