George Wendt, president, O.A.R.S. (Outdoor Adventure River Specialists):

"The Grand Canyon's spectacular wilderness terrain has many wonderful observation points. My favorite view is from the top of Deer Creek Falls, at mile 136 on the Colorado River. From a vantage point several hundred feet above the river and just above the top of the falls, the observer can look back up several miles. The multi-colored rock layers of the North Rim rise more than 5000 vertical feet from the river, and often there's no sign of life (except perhaps a rafting party at the base of the falls). The tranquility of this scene easily permeates one's innermost being."
