The Grandest River

Colorado River, Arizona

There is no place else on Earth like the Grand Canyon: You can float through stupendous geology, touch nearly two-billion-year-old rocks, play Frisbee in enormous stone amphitheaters, and ride out Lava and Crystal Falls – some of the biggest white water in the world and a guaranteed reality check for even the most brazen teens. Of the countless Grand Canyon option, the best is an eight-day float from Phantom Ranch to Whitmore Wash with river experts O.A.R.S. The outfitter’s founder, George Wendt, has run family-oriented excursions down the Colorado since being granted one of the river’s first permits in 1969.

YOU CAN scramble up a narrow slot canyon with your spouse

THE WHOLE FAMILY WILL LOVE braving Lava Falls, the river’s most notorious rapid
